In late November, our web site disappeared from the internet. It led some people to believe we had collapsed, and were gone for good. In all probability one individual, who earlier in the month had used his Christian site to declare a short-lived war on Apathetic Agnosticism, felt that his prayers to his version of God had been answered. It seemed we were not simply pining for the fjords[1], but well and truly deceased.
But not so. Our host, SnapJax in Jacksonville Florida who have graciously carried our web site free of charge for the past few years, ran into some severe technical difficulties. At the same time, I had some to take off on an unplanned trip, and was gone for two weeks and was not able to make alternate arrangements for our web site.
As a result, we were out of service for nearly three weeks. To external appearances, UCTAA may have seemed dead. Obviously, we are not, or you would not be reading this article. The web site has been resurrected. And we are more available on the net than ever!
As a result of this service failure, we have set up a degree of redundancy for our sites that we did not have before. We reopened our old site on Geocities (http://www.geocities.com/uctaa/ [this site subsequently discontinued]), and that now carries about 90% of our content. We moved ApatheticAgnostic.org to a new host and that has full content. We expect to return uctaa.net with full content to its host in Florida (and from there it subsequently migrated to a commercial host) as soon as all the problems have been sorted out.[2]
We are back! We are better than ever! And in spite of our apparent demise, we expect to be around a long, long time.
Footnotes:
- For the uninitiated, a reference to the Monty Python "Dead Parrot" sketch.
- The site grew too large to maintain on Geocities. We currently use two commercial hosts for the website: uctaa.net & apatheticagnostic.com on one host, mirrored as apatheticagnostic.org (along with apatheticagnostic.info and uctaa.com) on another. uctaa.org is now our bulletin board.
