I believe reality begins from the ground up, from the nanoscopic to the astronomical, from subatomic particles to stars, planets and galaxies, from primitive microbes to plants and animals.
It all begins with the fundamental forces binding electrons and protons into atoms, and then binding atom to atom and molecule to molecule, culminating in the gravitational forces drawing celestial bodies together and arranging them into solar systems and galaxies.[1]
And life begins with natural chemistry producing amino acids, the essential building blocks of life, building blocks that then evolve into self-replicating molecules. Step by step, inorganic chemistry developing into organic chemistry and the emergence of life, primitive self-sustaining, self-replicating microbes.[2]
Once life begins, it will not give up, it will not lay down and die, it will struggle to survive and to reproduce, creating generation after generation, each of which has a microscopic mutation. Though one microscopic mutation is insignificant, a million insignificant mutations culminates in a new species and billions of mutations over a billion years culminates in hundreds of species, each of which leaves its mark upon the environment, slowly, ever so slowly creating a living, breathing world.
And so, I believe reality begins from the ground up, from the nanoscopic to the astronomical, from subatomic particles to stars, planets and galaxies, from primitive microbes to living, breathing ecosystems.
