I have a dream - our common humanity

I dream of a world that celebrates our common humanity, a world that dedicates a day to remember we are all human, that mothers in Africa struggle to comfort their sick babies just like mothers in Europe and Australia struggle to comfort their colicky babies, a day when the world remembers that fathers in South America are working hard to feed and clothe their families just like fathers in Asia and the Middle East, a day when we remember that children of North America are studiously learning everything they need to become productive citizens just like the children of the Indo-Pacific and Arctic regions.

I dream of world that celebrates the human experience, a world that dedicates a day to remember the people of Paris love to laugh just as the people of Johannesburg love to laugh, a day when we remember that families in Phnom Peng eat dinner together just as families in Buenos Aires, a day when the world reminds us the people of Chicago struggle with influenza much like people in Hong Kong, a day when we remember the citizens of Moscow ride the subway to work much like the people of Singapore, Cairo, Sao Paulo, Calgary and Tokyo.

I dream of a world that celebrates our common humanity, a day when the world reminds us that whatever the colour of our skin, hair, eyes, vestments, currency or flag, we are one species, a day when the world reminds us that beneath the conspicuous differences, we are all human, we are all just as beautiful and just as ugly as the next people, we are all just as good and just as bad as the next person, we are all just as wonderful and just as pitiful as the next individual, a world that reminds us we are all human.
