Tragedy and Reaffirmation of Faith

The tragedy of the recent death of nearly 1000 Shia attending a religious celebration in Iraq is that rather than questioning whether a benevolent God would allow this to happen, they will use it as a reaffirmation of their faith.
I heard the very same from a Salvation Army colonel involved in the rescue of survivors of hurricane Katrina in New Orleans.
