What did the Founding Fathers intend?

There's an interesting and well written article in the April 14, 2008 edition of the New Yorker - Prior Convictions: Did the Founders want us to be faithful to their faith?, by the historian Jill Lepore. It discusses five new books on religious liberty and the US Founding Fathers and puts them into an historical perspective. It is good reading and highly informative.

The article can currently be found online at (though it may expire for non-subscribers):

or possibly at your local library in the April 14, 2008 New Yorker on page 71.
